The cultivation of chestnut in Qianxi has a long history, which is recorded in the Book of Songs, Warring States Policies, Zuo Zhuan, The Analects of Confucius, Compendium of Materia Medica, and the Complete Book of Agricultural Policy. "The Book of Songs" has the poem "Hazelnut of trees". According to the Warring States Policy, when Su Qin was lobbying Yan Wenhou, he said: "The Yan State... there is a stone tablet named Yanmen in the south, and there is a jujube and chestnut in the north. Although the people do not work in the field, they are satisfied with the jujube and chestnut. This is called Tianfu." In the Records of the Historian · Biographies of the Merchant Colony of the Han Dynasty, it was said that "Yan and Qin have thousands of chestnuts... This person is all a thousand marquis." The "North" and "Yan" here, including the Qianxi area today, indicate that this place was a famous origin of Chinese chestnut very early, and the production of Chinese chestnut is relatively rich. There are also many records in Shan Hai Jing, Lu's Spring and Autumn Annals, and Xijing Miscellaneous Records.

The Qing Yi Lu records an anecdote that when the emperor of the Jin Dynasty chased after the enemy, the army food supply was not available, and the soldiers and soldiers did not enter the grain of rice for three days, resulting in a great drop in morale. When I arrived at the east of Luanshui in Yanshan, I saw a mountain full of chestnuts, and ordered the soldiers to steam chestnuts for food, so as to fill my stomach. So the morale was boosted and the enemy soldiers were defeated. Therefore, the soldiers called chestnuts "Hedong Rice". The Annals of Qian'an County in the Republic of China records that "Yijing has the richest output, the most distant marketing, and the largest output". The "Yijing" here mainly refers to the Qianxi area today. The 100~200 year old chestnut trees can be seen everywhere in the territory. There are still many 300~500 year old chestnut trees in Xinlizhuang, Hanerzhuang, Lishuwanzi and other places, which are still luxuriant. The 600 year old chestnut trees of the early Ming Dynasty also grow in Changshengyu Village. Before liberation, due to frequent wars, chestnut resources were seriously damaged. By 1949, there were only 900000 mu and 700000 plants of Chinese chestnut in the county, with an annual output of 2.22 million kg.
